Our people

OCEHL is based in the University of Oxford Nuffield Department of Women’s and Reproductive Health.

Led by Prof. Fadil Hannan, OCEHL Director, the team comprises: a lead research practitioner, clinical research assistants, postdoctoral scientists, research students and a project manager.

We are located within the Women’s Centre of the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford.

Michelle was an MRes student co-supervised by Prof Manu Vatish.

Abena Boatey - Final Honours Student - Sept-Dec 2023

Abena was a visting student working on mammary hormone receptor expression.

Alexandria Fry - LRF OCEHL Lead Research Midwife - Mar 2022-Aug 2023

Alex led the development of the NECTAR and INSIGHT projects during her time at LRF OCEHL. In particular she launched the main phase of the INSIGHT study and built the clinical research team that has recruited well over 200 study participants.

Magdalena Bachmann - Visiting MSc Student - Nov 2022-May 2023

Magdalena was a visiting researcher working with Taha Elajnaf on mammary cell imaging.

Dr Robert Humphrey - MSC Student - Oct 2021-Oct 2022

Rob joined LRF OCEHL as a trainee doctor to undertake a 12 month part-time MSc research project entitled “Endocrine regulation of mammary cell metabolism”. Rob also worked closely with the rest of the team to help process the samples for the INSIGHT Study.

Christie Overton - Visiting MSc Student- Apr-Sept 2022

Christie undertook a research project as part of her MSc course in Clinical Embryology (2021-22). Her project focused on the hormonal regulation of mammary metabolism.

Eve Logan - UNIQ+ Research Intern - Jul-Aug 2022

Eve had a UNIQ+ graduate internship at LRF OCEHL. She assessed the effect of hormones on gene expression in mammary cells.

HELEN PRICE - LRF OCEHL Research Midwife - Mar 2019-Jan 2022

Helen was part of the founding team that set up OCEHL in 2019. She was responsible for establishing all OCEHL’s clinical studies during her time, including: NECTAR, INSIGHT and other survey based tools investigating the role of hormones in lactation.

Maya Robertson - Visiting MSc Student - Oct-Dec 2021

Maya joined OCEHL as a 3rd year Oxford medical student to do a full-time 8 week research project entitled: “Expression analysis of mammary signalling factors during lactation”.

Skaai Davidson - Visiting MSc Student - Apr-Sept 2021

Skaai undertook a full-time research project in LRF OCEHL as part of an MSc Clinical Embryology.

Lois Allen - Uniq+ Research Intern - Jul-Aug 2021

Lois had a UNIQ+ graduate internship for two months at LRF OCEHL. Her project involved assessing mammary gene expression using publicly available datasets.

Juho Asteljoki - Visiting Erasmus Student - Mar-Dec 2020

Juho was a biomedical undergraduate from Finland mainly working on assessing expression of hormones and hormone receptors in the mammary gland, as well as in silico analyses of RNA sequencing datasets of mammary tissue from various species.

Elizabeth Thomas - VISITING MSc STUDENT - APR-SEP 2020

Lizzie was completing an MSc in Clinical Embryology (2019-20) and while at LRF OCEHL, examined existing literature on how metabolic hormones impact lactation.
