LRF OCEHL featured in The Sunday Times

Research from the LRF OCEHL was recently featured in The Sunday Times.

Our Director Fadil Hannan, was interviewed by The Sunday Times along with his collaborator in Cambridge Dr Alecia-Jane Twigger, on the science they are conducting to explain why some women face difficulties in breastfeeding.

Fadil discussed the centre’s research exploring the biology of the mammary gland and the hormones involved in milk production.

He highlighted the importance of breastfeeding for maternal and infant health, and yet many aspects of how the breast rapidly transitions to producing milk after birth remain poorly understood.

Fadil also explained that the INSIGHT study is currently investigating how hormones, such as prolactin and cortisol, regulate this process, and how the body provides the nutrients needed to support milk production.

The Sunday Times feature reflects growing interest in the science of lactation and the importance of research to address fundamental gaps in our understanding of human milk production.
